Crotched Mountain Foundation Announces Covid Learning Support for Students with Disabilities

MANCHESTER – Crotched Mountain Foundation has announced two grant awards to the Granite YMCA, headquartered in Manchester and The Upper Room in Derry. The funding, totaling $20,000, will be used by the two organizations to support children with disabilities who are struggling with remote learning due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

“Children with disabilities, and especially from lower income families, have been dramatically impacted by Covid, falling further and further behind.  The pandemic has been an educational crisis for these children,” said Ned Olney, President of Crotched Mountain Foundation. “We are so grateful to our donors, led by C&S Wholesale Grocers, who have responded to fund these quick impact grants, which will support one-to-one tutoring. And we are especially grateful to our partners at the Granite Y and The Upper Room who are quickly providing additional support over the holiday period for those children with disabilities who have the most need.”

“The Upper Room is pleased to receive a grant from the Crotched Mountain Foundation, which allows us to focus on support and tutoring services for students in need of additional academic instruction,” said Brenda Guggisberg. Executive Director of The Upper Room. “The COVID Pandemic has presented us with multiple challenges, one of which is the continuity of education for our children. In January, The Upper Room will open registration to offer students with disabilities a place and time to complete school work and catch up on their academics. We are grateful that Crotched Mountain Foundation saw this need and made the commitment  to ensure that students with disabilities continue to be served.”

“The Granite YMCA is proud to be a recipient of a grant from Crotched Mountain Foundation,” said Stacy Neville, Director of Child Care for the Granite Y. “Thanks to this partnership, we will be able to provide scholarship funds dedicated to supporting students with IEPs, coordinate our staff to provide direct support to these students, and purchase technology to support remote learning.”
