Kathy has severe epilepsy and is a client of Crotched Mountain Community Care (CMCC) – our case management program for those with a chronic condition or a disability, and whose incomes are well below poverty level.
Kathy also shares her busy home with ten other family members, including several young children. She’s 56 and she values the way CMCC coordinates many different types of services and supports for those struggling with a serious diagnosis and low income. Keeping Kathy’s family living safely together through good times and through crisis is our shared goal.
On a bitter cold day in December, Kathy called Marge Goudreault, her CMCC Case Manager. They had run out of heating oil. Unanticipated expenses on their tight budget meant they had no money to fill the tank. It was getting colder – pipes might freeze – they could lose it all. Kathy was desperate!
Immediately, Marge and her colleagues reviewed CMCC grant program funds and, thankfully, identified some money that could be used to purchase fuel. These funds are made possible through donations by individuals and by grant awards from our community foundation partners.
The next call was to the oil company and within the hour their driver was at Kathy’s home with an oil delivery, funded by a CMCC grant.
The family was extremely grateful. It was only a tank of oil, but the generosity of our community impacts the lives of people like Kathy and her family, every day.
