"Our story is one of joy."
Dr. Ronna HasBrouck, Superintendent
We wanted to be able to increase the social interactions for our students in preschool with complex disabilities. We do not have adequate playground equipment for them to interact with their peers. We used our $7,500 to purchase equipment for students to use during unstructured time for social interactions.
This model has been used as a springboard for incoming preschoolers for a new position for inclusion facilitation services. We also co-treat with BCBA and Occupational Therapy Services using this equipment as well.
We have a student who is identified as autistic and is non-verbal. He has been able to use our music mat during unstructured playtime to interact with a typical peer on a routine basis. They have developed a wonderful “relationship.”
Outcomes
We have seen a 100% increase in access to unstructured playtime with typical peers at the preschool level. We have necessary technologies and specialized equipment to support the social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs of Pre-K students at Nottingham School.
