CMF Kids Event Celebrates the Achievements of New Hampshire School Districts

On May 5, 2022, Crotched Mountain held the debut CMF Kids partnership special event that celebrated the work of the six school district partners that participated in the inaugural year of CMF Kids. CMF Kids is the innovative new program from Crotched Mountain Foundation, which supports special education initiatives from school districts in economically disadvantaged New Hampshire towns, the goal of which is to serve children with complex disabilities in their own communities.

The event recognized the incredible work from Berlin Middle-High School, Milan School, Lisbon School, Warren School, Northumberland and Stratford Schools, and White Mountain Regional High School. Event guests included superintendents, principals, and special education administrators.

“To see our wonderful partners receive the recognition they so richly deserved was nothing short of inspiring,” said Melissa White, Executive Director of CMF Kids. “We at CMF Kids and our partners believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed in school and in their own community.”

The CMF Kids partnership event featured networking and a robust group discussion on the most pressing needs in special education for the North Country as well as how CMF Kids can continue to help poor New Hampshire public Schools build capacity in their special education programs.

Partnership accomplishments for 2021 – 2022 include:

  • Improving school cultures of inclusion through social emotional learning training for teachers
  • Providing Registered Behavioral Technician training for para-educators
  • Conducting a comprehensive school-wide special education needs assessment
  • Supporting students to gain vocational and post-secondary vocational skills
  • Increasing community access opportunities for students through transportation support
  • Expanding academic resources for reading across general and special education classrooms

CMF Kids partnership priorities include: inclusive education, student achievement, vocational training and employment, transition planning services and post-secondary readiness, teacher and para professional training and development, and family engagement in the IEP and special education services.
